CN — Construction
Renovations, building work and maintenance, prepared properly.
Construction work runs from a full bathroom or kitchen renovation to a single damaged roof timber. What the jobs have in common is that they fail at the preparation, not the finish: an uneven screed telegraphs through the tiles, a wet area tiled over inadequate waterproofing leaks into the room below, and a structural change made without approval becomes a problem at transfer. We price the preparation as part of the job, because leaving it out is how a cheap quote becomes an expensive repair.
What the work covers
- Bathroom and kitchen renovations, including the plumbing they involve
- Floor and wall tiling, with screeding and waterproofing done first
- Built-in cupboards, kitchen carcassing and fitting
- Roof structure repairs, re-roofing and roof sheeting
- Doors, frames, architraves and skirting
- Drywall partitioning, bulkheads and ceilings
- Repairs and maintenance on homes, rentals and complexes
Standards that apply
What the regulations require of this work. These describe the standard, not a claim about any particular contractor — ask any contractor, including us, to show you their registration.
Building work must comply with the National Building Regulations. Part L covers roofs, and structural alterations generally require approval from the local authority before work starts.
Wet areas must be waterproofed before tiling. Tile adhesive and grout are not waterproofing layers.
Covers substrate preparation, adhesive selection, movement joints and grouting. Movement joints are required at defined intervals and at changes of plane — leaving them out is a common cause of tiles lifting.
