EL — Electrical

Electrical installation, fault finding and DB board upgrades.

Fixed electrical work in South Africa is regulated. The installation has to comply with the national wiring code, and the person signing it off has to be registered to do so. We work to that standard on domestic and commercial installations.

What the work covers

  • Prepaid meter installation and replacement
  • New wiring and full or partial rewiring
  • Fault finding on circuits that trip, overheat or fail intermittently
  • Distribution board upgrades, relabelling and earth leakage protection
  • Additional circuits for appliances, geysers and outbuildings
  • Repairs to damaged or non-compliant existing work

Standards that apply

What the regulations require of this work. These describe the standard, not a claim about any particular contractor — ask any contractor, including us, to show you their registration.

SANS 10142-1The wiring of premises — low-voltage installations

Every fixed electrical installation must comply with this code. A Certificate of Compliance may only be issued by a person registered for that purpose, and a valid certificate is required before a property can be transferred.

OHS Act, Electrical Installation RegulationsOccupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993

The user or lessor of an installation must hold a valid Certificate of Compliance. A certificate older than two years is generally not accepted on transfer.
