PL — Plumbing

Leak repairs, geyser installation and pipe replacement.

Most plumbing calls are one of two things: something is leaking, or the hot water has stopped. Both are worth fixing properly rather than twice. Geyser installations in particular are governed by their own standard, and a badly installed geyser is both a water risk and an insurance problem.

What the work covers

  • Leak detection and repair, including concealed and underground leaks
  • Geyser installation, replacement and relocation
  • Geyser valve replacement — pressure control, vacuum breaker, drip tray
  • Pipe replacement, including galvanised pipe swap-outs
  • Burst pipe repairs
  • Blocked drains and waste pipe clearing

Standards that apply

What the regulations require of this work. These describe the standard, not a claim about any particular contractor — ask any contractor, including us, to show you their registration.

SANS 10254The installation, maintenance, replacement and repair of fixed electric storage water heating systems

Geyser installations must include a correctly sized pressure control valve, a vacuum breaker on both hot and cold sides, a drip tray with an overflow to the outside, and adequate insulation on the hot water pipe.

SANS 10252-1Water supply installations for buildings

Sets out how a water supply installation must be designed and installed, including pipe sizing and protection of the potable supply.

Municipal by-lawsWater installation certificates

Some municipalities require a plumbing certificate of compliance on the transfer of a property. Requirements differ by metro — confirm with your conveyancer which applies to you.
